Tim Wilkin and Anthony Stabile each was given a mythical $2,000 to spend as he sees fit during the Saratoga season.
Before the Belmont Stakes, Flounder Stabile was calling himself "The Beast of the Belmont" because he says he correctly picked five of the past eight Belmonts. Of course, the bombastic blowhard was touting himself all Belmont week, saying he would pick the winner this year. He was even wearing T-shirts designed by his girlfriend Christine with "The Beast of the Belmont" with a cartoon image of Stabile holding fistfuls of dollars in each hand. Stabile just about guaranteed that Hofburg would win the Belmont and his bravado would have made Joe Namath proud. We all know that Stabile's titanic tout sank quicker than the ill-fated ocean liner. Hofburg was third. Hofburg is running in today's Curlin and towers over the field. Stabile is not wearing "The Beast of the Curlin" T-shirts, but is picking the Bill Mott-horse, just like everyone else. "It's what I do," Flounder Stabile said matter of factly in the press box. "I make dreams come true." Oy vey. For today, $40 win Out of Trouble and $20 exacta box with Vortex Road (6th); $50 win Uncle Mojo (8th).
Did have Alberobello ($4.80) 15 times. Not a big hit, but will take what we can get in the infancy stages of the meet. Missed on the exacta. Eye Luv Lulu held on to second in Morrissey, needed him to win.
Busy Friday for me. Barns in the a.m. to watch Mind Your Biscuits work for the final time before next Saturday's Whitney, Talking Horses at 11:40 a.m. with Andy Serling, then four hours of radio, highlighted by my boy Hofburg in the Curlin.

The best of the day, as it usually is, will be dinner. I get to see The Boss, as it usually is Mojo Trading Oy , my third trip of the meet. If I handicapped as well as I ordered I'd have more money than Marylou Whitney.
I'm sure Wilkin will say something about Hofburg being the selection of my alter ego, The Beast of the Belmont, in this year's Test of the Champion because he is THAT predictable. Maybe one day he'll come up with something original. On that day, I'll jump in the lake.
Speaking of Hofburg (9th), let's make a pair of $20 doubles using him with Third Card Down and One Cool Kitten (10th).

Hail didn't seem to appreciate the sloppy course she's bred to love while Long Haul Bay took an obscene amount of money and failed to fire as the 6-5 favorite.
