WWF Insurrextion 2001 Review
Overall, it was a good show, but nowhere near as good as
(to be frank, nothing on this list will achieve the grade that
under the World Wrestling Federation name, Insurrextion 2002 Review
). For the first time, we have multiple musical entertainers in the form of Saliva and Drowning Pool, who were both fairly popular during this period.
This was a pretty fun match, complete with RVD's crazy moves and Regal's excellent-as-always heeling. Regal also had his current theme for this
, so that was pretty cool (because it's one of the best, you see).
This was a great match featuring fun offense from both wrestlers. This also marks DDP's first and only
appearance, as he would depart the company a month after this show due to age and nagging injuries.
Maven and Goldust fight to a no contest in a Hardcore Match
This started off as a Hardcore match between Maven and Goldust, but Spike Dudley intervenes and steals the Hardcore title. This leads to a show-long extravaganza where the title changes hands four more times...I'll cover this in more detail later on.
Before the match, Angle was doing some damn fine heeling about the recent Winter Olympics and figure skating. The match itself, believe it or not, was pretty good with both getting in good amounts of offense. Both men were certainly in their prime during this match.
Undertaker defeats Ric Flair in a No Disqualification match
, and it was at this show when The Streak was starting to become a pretty big deal. The buildup to this match was awesome as well, especially on Undertaker's part, who was at his best in terms of promos and mic work. The match itself, although brutal, wasn't the best on the show. However, the psychology was excellent. Also, Arn Anderson's spinebuster is amazing.
There was a sign in the crowd that explained it all: "They are fighting about shampoo." The match itself was slow at the start, but it got better toward the end. Also, Edge got a huge pop, as expected. Oh, and before I forget to mention it, Jim Ross actually said "Somebody bring me a cheeseburger!" before this match while they were showing the Hard Rock Cafe in the SkyDome.
I can't believe I'm saying this about a Steve Austin match, but this match was just there. Meh. It got fun toward the end, but all-in-all, it was nothing special.
Billy and Chuck defeat The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff Hardy), The Dudley Boyz (D-Von and Bubba Ray) (with Stacy Keibler), and The APA (Farooq and Bradshaw) in a Four Corner Tag Team Elimination Match
Stacy Keibler was smokin' hot here...stating the obvious, I know. Other than that, this was a decent match, but I found it hard to care about.
This was the match that received all of the hype, and certainly should have been main event. This was Hogan's first
, and it was hyped to hell. The match, although not very good in the wrestling department, was a psychological powerhouse. Still, to this day, it is hard to find a match with this kind of psychology. The crowd was insane throughout, and when Hogan started to Hulk up...HOLY SHIT did they go insane. The Rock got a John Cena reaction, as expected. The post match craziness was as good as the match itself.
Nothing special here. Jazz didn't look that good compared to Trish and Lita.
Maven ultimately regains the Hardcore Title from Christian
As I said, this was something that went on during all of
. Titleholders (in sequential order) include Spike Dudley, Hurricane Helms, Mighty Molly (you're reading that correctly), Christian (who won in brutal fashion from Molly), and, finally, Maven. There were some pretty funny moments in this, including Hurricane in the women's locker room getting creative with a broomstick.
Triple H defeats Chris Jericho (with Stephanie McMahon)
This match was a letdown. Although it had great psychology and a couple cool spots (including Stephanie taking a Pedigree), Insurrextion 2002 Review , this match just didn't feel like a main event, especially after Hogan vs. Rock. The ending was also predictable.
was a good show, but nowhere near the caliber of its predecessor. There were a number of good matches, but the main event, as well as a good chunk of the undercard, was a big letdown.
