School boy dies suddenly before SSC examination in Mumbai

A 15-year-old boy who was to appear for his SSC examination and was studying till late in the night died suddenly early in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to the Dadar police, the deceased, identified as Rutvik Ghashi, stayed with his family in the Old Prabhadevi area in Worli.

“Rutvik’s family has told us that he had been suffering from jaundice for the last 15 days and had also been treated for it on an outpatient basis. In the early hours of Thursday morning, he suddenly started screaming in pain and thrashing about. His mother, Ranjana (42) rushed him to the KEM Hospital with the help of some neigbours, where he was declared dead before admission at around 1:57 am,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dadar division) Sunil Deshmukh said.

A post mortem examination was subsequently carried out but the cause of death has been kept pending.

The teenager, a student of Shishuvihar School, was studying till late as SSC exams were starting from Thursday.

Dr Harish Pathak from KEM’s forensic department said that the heart and lung tissue has been preserved for histopathology.

“The family has given a history of fever and jaundice about a fortnight ago. The boy was not on any medication currently,” said Dr Pathak adding that there was no congenital condition either.

The Dadar police have registered an Accidental Death Report in connection with the incident.
