. The women’s battle royal match will still take place as advertised, but public backlash and sponsor pressure forced WWE to change the name. All things considered,

I’m glad Sullivan stood up for the accusers. I keep fearing a backlash where people in the industry stand up for Moolah as a knee-jerk thing without really knowing the facts. I’m glad someone as reputable as Sullivan is corroborating some of what the accusers said. Moolah Listen
Of course he’d be in favor of renaming the battle royal after his ex-wife.
I’d give WWE/Vince credit if they understood that naming the event after Moolah would have been a tasteless idea and never considered it, but that’s not what happened; like idiots, they used her name and then backed off when their sponsorship/profits were threatened. Nothing gallant and nothing fan-sensitive to be seen here.
It’s pretty fucking sad they can’t come up with one deceased female wrestler to name this match after that doesn’t have a horrible/sketchy/tragic backstory whose name isn’t Mae Young. Moolah Listen
This is a bit off topic, but it’s so bizarre to me how closely intertwined the pro wrestling business is to the porn industry. They both have a lot of the same stigmas, similar odd looks when you’re an adult and talk about it in public. Then you have Joey Ryan that has YouPorn as a sponsor, you have your Sunny’s, Buff Bagwell’s, X-Pac’s, and Chyna’s (RIP). You also have your 80s wrestlers that mostly all look like male porn stars (think Michael Hayes in The Freebirds, or old-gen Shawn Michaels, or Jake Roberts, or a name and look like Brutus Beefcake). Then of course you have the awful history behind a lot of former promoters and their friends – the least of which is Moolah, pimping out her women wrestlers.
My wife, who has no real understanding of pro wrestling and I’ve quit trying, equated it to porn the first and only time she watched it with me. And Daniel Bryan was in the damn main event. She was like, “So…you like to watch a bunch of tan, greasy, muscled up dudes in their underwear pretend to fight each other? You watch this but you’re not that big into, I dunno, porn?”
“It tells a story and if you wait long enough, you’ll get a feel good happy ending” isn’t the right thing to say when trying to explain why it’s so important to you. So you try to show the Max Landis video and…*stare off into oblivion*…nevermind.
