is not only coming to Switch, it launched shortly after Nintendo's E3 2018 Direct. Rate Date Smash Or Pass , it launched shortly after Nintendo's E3 2018 Direct.

is the world's most popular video game right now, thanks largely to its 'Battle Royale' mode which drops 100 players onto an island in a 'last man standing' face-off. Alongside

, Fortnite is responsible for making the 'Battle Royale' concept one of the hottest genres in the industry right now; however, it offers its own unique gameplay hook in the ability to craft defences during combat, something which gives it surprising tactical depth.

Fortnite has been downloaded millions of times across PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and iOS, and is coming to Android soon as well. Now that the Switch version has arrived there's simply no escape from this video game phenomenon.

Fortnite is out right now on Nintendo Switch, launching shortly after Nintendo's E3 2018 Direct on June 12th, 2018.

It appears that the dataminers were correct when they discovered that Fortnite was

which showed Fortnite as part of Nintendo's E3 slate.

A huge part of Fortnite's success is down to the fact that the Battle Royale mode - which, let's face it, is the one everyone is playing - is free to download. The main game was initially released as a premium title set in a world where people start vanishing following a mysterious storm, and players must work together in teams to fend off zombie attackers. However, the stand-alone Battle Royale mode is what has turned Fortnite into a worldwide smash.

That premium version, known as Save The World, hasn't yet appeared on Switch, so right now we're left with the pure Battle Royale mode that costs you nothing to download, but that doesn't mean your wallet will remain unmolested. Cosmetic items such as gliders, costumes and emotes are all available for V-Bucks, the game's virtual currency. V-Bucks are handed out as you progress through the tiers, but it takes ages to amass enough to actually buy anything. Therefore, there's always the temptation to spend real-world money to gain large sums of V-Bucks so you can buy that all-important outfit or amazing dance move.

Fortnite is divided into seasons, each of which has an optional 'Battle Pass' that - you've guessed it - costs actual money. Perks such as exclusive outfits or emotes tempt you to buy, and anyone who has a Battle Pass can enjoy other benefits for that season, such as additional unlocks and increased XP gain. It also offers weekly Battle Pass Challenges which make the game even more fun. The best thing about all of this is that you can ignore it if you wish - all of the items in the game are totally cosmetic and offer no gameplay advantage; Fortnite is refreshingly free of 'pay to win' tactics seen in other free-to-play games.

The Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks per season, and 1000 V-Bucks are around around £8 / $10. Each season lasts around 70 days, give or take.

. Instead, it uses a similar controller set up to the one used on PS4 or Xbox One.

Fortnite on Switch is identical to the other platforms, and is currently on season 4.

Season 4 arrived with quite a bang following rumours that a comet would collide with the map and change the layout of the level. The revised island now contains gravity-defying 'Hop Rocks' which allow you to jump high distances, as well as new cosmetic items, emotes and Sprays - the latter of which allows you to tag walls,

-style. Recently, Epic Games also added Jet Packs and shopping trollies to the game, offering new ways to play.

It's worth noting that Fortnite Season 5 is all set to start on July 10th, so you don't have to wait long for the next season to kick off. Sadly, we've just missed out on the amazing

. There's an outside chance that Switch players could get new outfits - Mario, anyone?

Given that Fortnite has been thrilling players for months now it's perhaps surprising that we haven't had any other Battle Royale titles on Switch yet. However, there's one notable challenger on the horizon in the shape of

, which has a few tricks of its own. It has a cool cover system, crafting and motion controls, and will offer cross-play support with other formats. If Fortnite doesn't tickle your fancy but you want a Battle Royale alternative, this might be up your street.

Damien has over a decade of professional writing experience under his belt, as well as a repulsively hairy belly. Rumours that he turned down a role in The Hobbit to work on Nintendo Life are, to the best of our knowledge, completely and utterly unfounded.

If this (somehow) doesnt happen then this will age well.

Quick, make a guide for Pokemon Stars while youre here.

Very impressive, writing this entire article based off no solid information.

This is going to be interesting release - assuming all the “leaked” information is true.It will be the first time an Unreal Engine 4 game is released on the Switch by the architects of the engine. So far, Unreal Engine 4 has had great success on the Switch, so I expect this will work well too!

Something tells me that Digital Foundry is going to be pouring over the details of this release with a fine-toothed comb.

Also of note: the games PvE mode “Save the World“ currently requires a purchase for founder's access, but it'll be F2P when it fully launches this year (I wouldn't be surprised if they announced when at E3). There's actually quite a few vBucks to be earned playing this mode, and they all carry over to BR.

It's also pretty fun in it's own right (at least, It's also pretty fun in it's own right (at least Rate Date Smash Or Pass , despite the fact that BR items are purely cosmetic, it doesn't use lootboxes.

Being a Nintendo guy I haven't played this yet and I look forward to giving it a shot.

Can't be surprised at this point, any website gaming related or not will find a way to put Fortnite in a headline since it's so popular right now, being free and "kid-friendly"

Lol what? There’s no release date and then the rest is just general information about fortnite as it exists on other platforms.

If it's free on Switch as well, I'm willing to give it a whirl.

I mean, it can't possible be as dreadful as Lost Reavers, right.

about Fortnite on Switch: Nothing. Thank you for reading."

I'd be more OK with it if they didn't call it a guide.

They’d better improve the patching system on Switch or people are gonna get pretty upset about how much SD card this game chews with its requent updates.

The v1.2 patch is 20MB (should be 4, based on changed files)

It takes 45MB space on the Switch as it installs the original version plus the patch, it doesn’t merge them.

Not much of a problem with a small game, but when the patches or GB in size....

Lol you beat me to it. A guide for something that hasn't been officially announced yet.

You know...it's almost like there's an article from today that's better suited for this....

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/06/guide_nintendo_e3_2018_press_conference_schedule_rumours_hopes_and_dreams

Motion control isn't the only thing that is pure speculation! All of it is! You could've mentioned that. That title is downright shameless.

Lol, yeah NL, this is kinda a pointless article. I mean, we know it's coming, but you couldn't wait a week when we get solid information about it??

does this really need to be shared before it's reveal? even though it's not confirmed yet, and we assume so from the leaks were getting...

most of the users here pretty much point out what i was gonna say.

This point has already been stated but I feel the need to reiterate:

Why couldn't this have waited until we have concrete details?

Guess what?I’ve got an issue with this article, but it’s probably not what you think:

“Perks such as ... additional unlocks and increased XP gain.” ... “all of the items in the game are totally cosmetic and offer no gameplay advantage;”

Excuse my ignorance as I’ve not played the game, but aren’t additional unlocks and XP gains a form of non-cosmetic gameplay advantage?

My son plays this a lot on PS4, but since I got a switch(launch day) I haven’t touched the ps.I have thought about trying this, but just can’t stop playing my switch.I will be getting this and crazy justice both when they do release. As well as wolfenstein.Console gaming doesn’t fit my life anymore as well as having a 3ds and now switch.Handheld has always been a gen or so behind, but not anymore.

The release hasn't even been confirmed. This is 100% speculation. At least reflect that fact in the title.

boy is this article going to look silly if the game never gets announced for switch

I hope the developers of fortnite troll everyone and cancel any switch version they may have. It'll make fools out of the people covering this version with no official confirmation. I didn't realise nintendolife had to pull in hits in this way.

I read the title and thought the game was announced for Switch. This article was a bad idea.

We know nothing and nothing is confirmed and anything is possible or not possible.

the clickbait is getting slowly worse on this site if this keeps up i may have to find an alternative website for Nintendo news and based on previous comments on this and other articles i am not the only one getting sick of it

I am not interested in battle royal-mode, but rather the monster horde-mode. But just if it will have split screen option to play together with my girlfriend.

The unlocks are all cosmetic. The increased XP helps unlock them faster (in addition to weekly and daily challenges).

Hm...the game is pretty much confirmed at this point. The Korean board doesn't rate videos unlike the ESRB. That means that the game must have been playable for the board to even bother rating it.

I foresee a shit ton of "I told you so's" during E3.

I'm very happy that my wilderness guide on that Safari didn't say:

"Oh a lion! I don't have any actual information on that animal, but rumour has it, it eats things."

"About Zebras - we don't really know much, but you might want to be careful around those. I guess."

Guide: A blind man's guide to a town he's never been to.

So XP is purely for unlocking cosmetic stuff? Fair play then. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Sorry Nintendo life, I know why you wrote this article, but the title was quite misleading. If we don't have an official word on the game yet, nor a release date, there is no need for an article like this.

Please understand that most of us do believe that Fortnite is coming to the switch (likely), but this article provided us with zero new information, the title claims otherwise. If I want speculation regarding Fortnite I will visit the forums!

Such a deceptive title when there is virtually nothing concrete or announced.

For a minute I thought this was IGN with the title lol.

Now - if Nintendo could just partner with Epic and give my plumbers skin and let me parachute in with Peach's umbrella.

We pretty much know Fortnite will be coming to the Switch, this article provides no real information though.

I just hope they will implement proper motion aiming like in Splatoon, not like in Doom where you can't reset your rectangle.

said - I have no real doubts this is coming to Switch. The title of this article however, is extremely misleading. It should be a "Rumor" article, for sure, not a guide. The title currently implies is has been officially announced, has been given a release date, will have exclusive content, and support motion controls. There's nothing wrong with the article or its content, just the title.

So many people complaining in the comments... They literally found all this Fortnite stuff on the eShop and everything, what more proof do you want that it's coming?

Came here for motion control info. Alas, only clickbait.

that’s Nintendo life In a nutshell. I’ve seen 2 other articles that copied tables and some word by word posts from Eurogamer hours after they posted first about the same thing. At least they have the courtesy to link sources to where they got their info from.

I can see you trying it then realizing that you have over 300 hours for it. 😉

It was nice knowing you NL, god you guys have gone downhill lately

I hear this fork knife is real big with the kids. Sounds kind of like Rampart, for the Atari Lynx. I guess I'll give it a go when it comes out, since it's free.

it's like the whole "this humble scribe" incident from last year.

"If it's free on Switch as well, I'm willing to give it a whirl.

I mean, it can't possible be as dreadful as Lost Reavers, right."

Oh, God. I had forgotten about Lost Reavers. I must have erased it from my mind. What a turd.

Click bait =/.. you guys have written many articles that already lay out all of this stuff.

Come on Nintendolife you're better than this. Following up yesterdays 'Fallout' speculation with an article that is pure clickbait.

At least call this article an intro to a game that might be on the switch next week.

How about actual confirmation? Isn't that a novel idea?

It may not be quite official yet, but you can bet your bottom dollar...

Oh, so that's what they're calling their credibility nowadays?

Who approved this? The article I mean. Isn’t there quality control? It’s not clickbait. It’s just straight up lying.

The dryness of this comment has me laughing right now haha

Hooray! It’s Splatoon without the cute characters or kick ass Japanese music! Pass.

I don’t play fortnight but my son loves playing it with his friends. It’s vastly different from Splatoon.

I’m guessing it’ll be smaller like the phone version. I haven’t checked those file sizes, but I believe it’s 1 or 2 gb, which is pretty good for the switch’s memory, even if you don’t have a memory card.

The initial size might not be too bad, but Fortnite seems to get updates on an almost weekly basis.

The patches stack up on Switch, it doesn’t appear to overwrite modified files, both versions are retained, so I’m assuming deleted files are not removed either.

Also, in my experience, the patch files are way bigger than they need to be.

Come on Nintendo Life... my respect for this site has lessened today

I've never played Fortnite, but it's pretty cool of you guys to do a guide for a game that's being heavily rumored to be coming to the Switch. You should probably also do one for Paladins as it seems to have the same evidence that Fortnite has.

https://nintendoeverything.com/paladins-switch-update-data-spotted-on-nintendos-servers/

I found FortniteBR to be a fun time waster, but every fight boils down to building towers while hopping and shooting. Crazy Justice is actually what I'm more interested in, mostly because of splitscreen, crossplay, and a story mode.

You see those stars by our names? We're forum moderators, that was his business.

Wich is nothing since it was never officially anounced. This is one of those ign articles. Clickbait at its finest, you should be ashamed of yourselves!!

If you have Amazon Prime, you can link that account to a Twitch account. If you then link your Twitch account to your Epic account, you will get a costume, backpack, pickaxe, and dance.

I always stay away from spending additional money in games when it's not necessary, but I started playing last night and was looking at the Battle Pass!Getting the loot and basically opening up challenges to get more loot looked like fun.
