was born on November 12th, 1988 in Long Beach, California.  Westbrook grew up in Hawthorne, a town outside of Los Angeles of about 80,000 people.  It was obvious early on he was athletically gifted as he and his best friend dreamed of playing at UCLA.  Westbrook’s best friend, Khelcey Barrs III was one of those friends who dreamed of playing alongside Russ at UCLA.

Yet, tragedy struck during a pickup basketball game and KB3, tragedy struck during a pickup basketball game and KB3 Kb3 Westbrook , passed away from an enlarged heart in 2004.  To this day, Russ wears KB3 on his wristbands at every game to honor his fallen friend.  The dream they both had of College and NBA stardom would have to be realized through Westbrook alone.

In High School, Westbrook was undersized and rode the bench until his Junior season.  At 5’8 and 140 pounds, Russ was nowhere to be found on any major College Basketball wish list.  However, the following Summer brought Westbrook the 6’3 height he has now.

He continued to fill out his broadening frame and the stat sheets for Leuzinger High School during his Senior year.

Even then, 8 rebounds Kb3 Westbrook , rebounding and playing defense at a high level.  He averaged 25 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists a game as a High School senior.

Yet still, major College Basketball programs were cold on Westbrook and the dream of playing big-time basketball seemed to be in question.  That question was answered and that dream came true when UCLA offered him a scholarship following the departure of
