An adult men’s tennis team from the Vancouver Tennis Center has qualified for the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest Sectionals that will be held in the Vancouver/Portland area this month.
The VTC men’s over-40 4.0 team captained by Pete Aleman placed first in the USTA playoff tournament July 27-29 at Sunset Athletic Club in Portland to qualify for sectionals.

The USTA Pacific Northwest Sectionals, featuring other playoff champions from Washington, Oregon and Alaska, will be held Aug. 24-26.
The 4.0-level men’s teams will play at Tualatin Hills, West Hills and Sunset.
Vancouver’s Club Green Meadows will host the 2.5 men and 3.5 women’s teams.
The finals for all levels are scheduled for Tualatin Hills and West Hills in Beaverton, Ore.
This is Aleman’s first sectional qualifier in his 16 years as a captain for the 40-over 4.0 team.
Members of this year’s team include Aleman, Michael Kazangian, Steve Bruning, James Feeney, Jeff Berman, Richard Santos, Shan Schannep, Manny Brar, Dr. Alan Jones, Vincent Scopacasa, Craig Evans, Shung Shin, Jeff Gulley, Everett Frank, and Tyler Shoemaker.
The champion of this age/level qualifies for the USTA Nationals in late October at Las Vegas.
Owen Huntington of Camas has been named to the Oregon Junior Golf Hogan Cup Team.
Huntington, who will be a sophomore at Camas High School, is on the four-man Team Oregon No. 2 and only golfer from Southwest Washington on the eight-player Oregon squad.
The 50th edition of the Hogan Cup, featuring some of the top junior golfers from the western United States and Canada, will take place Aug. 11-12 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland.
The annual event features 12 teams against each other in a 36-hole team tournament.
Janice Bradley of Battle Ground won the hammer throw and weight throw in the women’s 80-84 age group at the United States Track and Field National Masters meet, held July 26-29 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
Bradley had a winning throw of 16.1 meters in the hammer, and 7.58 meters in the weight throw.
She was also second in the javelin (12.01 meters), and discus (14.82), and third in the shot put (8.87), high jump and 100-meter dash (24.18 seconds).
Oscar Bauman, 45, of Vancouver, Ahmed Ibalegwaran, 16, of Parkrose, and Daniel Maton, 17, of Camas finished as a trio in the Clark County Running Club’s Round Lake 5K run on Aug. 1.
They were each given the time of 16 minutes, 49 seconds.
Ahrlin Bauman, 44, of Vancouver was alone in fourth place in 17:12.
Katarina Mueller, 26, of Vancouver, was the top female finisher. She was 12th overall in 21:33. Michaela Bruns, 21, of Vancouver, was second among the women (17th overall) in 22:45, and Amy Campbell, 36, of Vancouver was third (20th overall) in 23:04.
