Sarita finishes with a best of 62.03m, after a foul in her 6th attempt as well. Bronze eventually goes to Japan, with a 62.90 m. Her PB would have fetched Sarita a bronze here but it’s a creditable 5th place finish. The first and second place goes to China, with a massive lead over the rest of the pack.
Sarita fouls her fifth throw. She has one throw left to ensure a medal, currently lying in 4th. Watanabe has finished all her attempts. Sarita needs to better 62.45m.

Oh dear. Saurav Ghosal has lost in the men’s singles semifinal after having the early lead. He was the top seed at the Games. And this is a definite upset. Of course, we couldn’t know what went wrong without any telecast from the squash courts.
All the stats from that heartbreaking defeat for Manu and Sumeeth. 3 match points! A win here would have seen them have a great chance of ensuring a doubles medal as they would have faced a lower-ranked pair from Sri Lanka in the quarterfinal.
So close!!! Manu and Sumeeth had three match points against the world No 2 pair from China, Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen, but squander them to lose 13-21, 21-17, 23-25. The Indians were leading 20-18 in the decider! So unfortunate that this match was not on any of the two TV courts and no one outside the arena could watch it!

Iran’s Sohrab Moradi broke weightlifting’s longest standing world record on his way to gold in the men’s 94kg category. Moradi lifted 189 kg in snatch to better the 188-kg record set in 1999 by Greece’s Akakios Kakiasvilis.
Moradi now has a complete set of world records. He already owned the records for the clean and jerk (233 kg) and total weight (417 kg) in the men’s light heavyweight division. Full report
A Unified Korea team featuring athletes from North and South Korea won the bronze in dragon boat for their first medal at the Asian Games, reported AFP. The highly symbolic all-Korean team, competing together after a rapid improvement in cross-border relations, came in behind China and Indonesia in Palembang.
There were two Indian semi-finalists in the women’s singles but none of them manage to make it to the summit clash as Joshna Chinappa also loses her match to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam. The Malaysian won by three sets to one. Nonetheless,
Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy have lost their quarter-final against world No 3 pair of Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan 21-11, 24-22.
Vikas Thakur ends up eighth out of 10 lifters in the men’s 94 kg category with a total lift of 335 kg. Iran’s Sohrab Moradi wins the gold with 410 kg.

India stand ninth in the women’s team classification after three rounds, with a score of four-over. China tops the table with 19-under.
The Indian women’s TBR team ends up 9th with a time of 1:00.116 in the tail race final, which is not a medal race. China gets the gold with 56.161 in the grand final.

Vikas Thakur can’t lift 197 kg again in this third and final clean and jerk attempt, which means he ends up with a total score of 335, which is the fourth best so far. But a lot of the other lifters are still to come so expect that placement to fall.

World junior champ Gregoria Mariska Tunjung looks completely off-colour in her round of 16 match against PV Sindhu. The world No 3 has comfortably won the first game 21-12.

Atanu Das starts off the third set with a 10 but Viswash follows that up with a 6. Viswash makes up for it with a 10 on his second shot, while Jagdish also scores a 10 to take India’s score to 54. However, the Koreans score 56 to seal the match 5-1. This means the Indians are out of the men’s recurve team event.
India lose the second set 54-56 after despite shooting two 10s. One shot of 7 cost the Indians. Korea lead 3-1 going into the third set.
It’s a set that is split 1-1 but India would rue that. Needed a 9 from Atanu to win the set, he shot an 8! That was a golden chance to take the lead against the top seeds.

The Indian women’s recurve team lose the second set to Chinese Taipei as well, this time 51-56, with as many as four 8s in six shots. Chinese Taipei lead by four set points to India’s zero.

Fitriani starts off the second game well, even taking a 7-3 lead. However, Saina is in no mood to relent as she steps it up and takes a 11-9 lead into the interval.
Rashmi Rathore and Ganemat Sekhon are level on 68 points, currently occupying the 9th and 10th spots after the first three rounds of the women’s skeet qualifications.
Saina Nehwal completely dominates Fitriani in the first game, winning it 21-6 in less than 15 minutes. The Indonesian crowd, which was quite loud at the beginning of the match, has quietened down a bit.

Japan’s Hiroto Inoue, who won the men’s marathon, was accused of pushing his rival in a controversial sprint finish on Saturday, reported AFP. Bahrain’s Elhassan Elabbassi, who ended up second, lodged a complaint with race officials.
Inoue and Elabbassi entered the stadium in Jakarta neck and neck, before the Japanese athlete opened up a small lead. In the final 100 metres, Elabbassi attempted to overtake Inoue on the inside but fell back after apparent contact. “The number one [leader] pushed me,†said Elabbassi. “I would have won.â€

Athletics kicks off on Saturday and under-20 world champion Hima Das will be competing in the 400 metres alongside Nirmala Sheoran. Quarter-miler Muhammad Anas and long jumper Sreeshankar Murali will be in contention as well.
Sourav Ghosal, Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Joshna Chinappa will be aiming to make it to the finals of the squash competition. The three have already assured themselves of a bronze medal by making it to the semis, but will want to progress further.
Teenage sensation Anish Bhanwala will also be in action in the 25 metre rapid fire pistol shooting event. PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will return to the badminton courts for their second round matches.
